Fashionably Dead – Fashionably awesome

I’m sure that I mentioned never to read any book by Robyn Peterman while on the public transit (or in any public place, for that matter). Thankfully, we are in confinement so I’m reading her books comfortably at home… and I can laugh my fill.

Thankfully, because getting my reading mojo back meant that I could finally finish Fashionably Dead, the first book of the Hot Damned series. And Lord knows I laughed. A lot.

What is the book about?

Fashionably Dead is, first and foremost, the story of Astrid, a 29-year-old art teacher (for seniors). Shortly after her beloved grandmother’s funeral, she takes a wager with her best friend, Gemma: she will quit smoking. And she is determined (for a thousand dollars, we all would), so she books an appointment to get hyptonised.

That’s where the fun starts, as she wakes up a vampyre. The story follows her first steps into her new world and is full of Prada, of hot vamps (one in particular), complete with an obnoxious and loud angel, a fashion challenged fairy, glitter-eating monsters, a despicable mother, sexually charged seniors, and lots of action (of many kinds).

A must

I have to say that, as always, I am in awe of Robyn Peterman’s sense of comedy. The way she paces the scenes, with a mixture of emotion, wit, laughs, and hot moments never ceases to amaze me and keeps me glued to her books until the last page.

In this case, it took me five days, which is a long time, but that was not because of the book. That darn slump got to me. But once I was over it, I devoured the book until it cliffhanger ending!

Luckily for me, I didn’t have to wait to get my hands on the second book (Fashionably Dead Down Under), as the whole series is currently available on Kindle Unlimited. I won’t complain, as I am irrevocably in love with Astrid, Ethan, Gemma, Pam, The Kev, Venus, the four little monsters, and even Paris Hilton!

However, if you don’t like steamy, sexy scenes, this book is not for you, despite its great sense of pace and comedy. If you don’t mind them, this book is a must, and a much needed relief in the current challenged and challenging times.

My Goodreads Review

Fashionably Dead by Robyn Peterman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I laughed, I cried, then I laughed some more. And I fell irrevocably in love with Astrid, Ethan, Gemma, Pam, The Kev, Venus, and the four little demon babies!

An incredibly good book, and I’m glad I didn’t have to wait for the second one after the way that one ended (i.e. with a cliffhanger)!

Some fashionably good writing by Robyn Peterman… again. I never get tired of her books!

So glad that this series in on Kindle Unlimited so I can read it at last!!!
